In Paligo, you write content in topics. The idea is that you create a topic for each section of content, and then write each topic so that it is as self-contained as possible. You can link out to other topics that contain relevant information, but a reader should be able to go to any topic, in any order, and be able to make sense of the information.

We recommend that you create a new topic for each section of content that needs a heading (either a top-level heading or a sub-heading). You can then organise the topics into different levels in different publications. For example, you could have a topic as a sub-section in one publication but as a top-level topic in another publication.

You can also add multiple sections to a single topic, so you could have the main heading and sub-heading in the same topic. If you take this approach, you can easily split the sections into separate topics later (if you need to reuse only the sub-heading section, for example).

Create a Topic

To create a new topic:

  1. In the Content Manager, select the options menu ( ... ) for the folder that you want to contain your new publication. If a suitable folder does not already exist, you can create a new one (Create Folder).

  2. Select Create content.

  3. Make sure that Topic is selected as the Document Type.

  4. Enter a name for the new topic in the Document Title field and then select the Topic option and then OK.



    The characters you can use for titles are: numbers, language characters, punctuation characters, and spaces. The punctuation characters are:

    ! " # $ % / & ' ( ) * + , - . : ; < = > ? @ [ \ ] ^ _ ` { | } ~

Paligo creates a new topic. Select the topic to open it in the Topic Editor. As a new topic, it has these elements:

  1. section is the container for the topic's other elements.

  2. title is the topic's heading.

  3. para is the first paragraph in the topic.

To create the content for the topic, first add the appropriate type of element to create the structure, and then add your content to the element (see Add Content to Topics.).


There are alternative ways to add new topics:

  • Select New Topic in the structure view of a Publication:

  • Select Create Content at the top of the Content Manager, and then select Topic.
