Back to Paligo Academy
As we discussed in the first lesson, you can actually change your Zendesk theme in order to work with the Paligo content. The basics make sure the styles we're pushing in to Zendesk are all matched by your theme. You might need to make some changes because we have some styles you won't have in there already. There's also additional functionality like glossary and accordions that .. we have some JavaScript and CSS that we've created that you can use in your theme. However, just make sure that you test everything thoroughly, nothing nothing clashes. Because our content is code is what we've created. And be sure it doesn't clash with yours, but that this really does give you a lot of possibilities for taking some of the regular content we push into HTML5 to even have that working in Zendesk because it allows you to change the CSS and JavaScript. Let's take a look. As you saw before, Paligo created a zip file, which is on the bottom left of my screen. Many times you can ignore it, but this time, you might want to use some of these files as optional to put into your Zendesk theme, and I'll show you briefly in a second how. So if we look at CSS and inside Zendesk, you'll see three CSS files inside JavaScript and Zendesk is in, as a bunch of JavaScript files. These are optional files that you can take to put into your Zendesk team for things like the glossary, lightbox, if you're using it, etcetera, etcetera. It's purely optional, but when we talk about adding files to your team, these are the files. What I'm gonna do now is give you a very basic idea of how to update the theme for Zendesk. We're not doing a Zendesk tutorial on themes. So for more information, please learn yourselves or speak to your Zendesk expert and they can help. Maybe even share this small part of the video with them so they understand what to do. So I'm going to the guide admin, going into the theme with that icon. Customize, in my case, the live theme, you might wanna customize something else. You have an option edit code at the bottom right. Now I help pages go into much more detail than I'm doing here. But in the assets folder, you have an option to add assets. And there you would choose those assets that I potentially showed you as you can see them here. Okay? So you would... Right now Zendesk would do nothing with them, but they act exactly they actually exist here. Then you would go into your document head. And again, our help explains the syntax that you need to use to optionally call in those different, CSS and JavaScript files again, all the details there in the Help for you. But this is what you do to get them to work. So a couple of things to say. First of all, test carefully. To make sure everything works. And together with that, it's possible as you're bringing other CSS and JavaScript files in, maybe they would clash with your existing content. So you need to double check, like I keep saying for everything here. Double check to make sure everything works properly and normally and doesn't clash. These are optional files that you can add in. There's no guarantee they will work without any type of clash. So that's regarding bringing in those CSS and JavaScript files. Now I wanna talk about the CSS. Now the CSS that you bring in doesn't cover all the Paligo elements. What I'd recommend we do is something similar to how we change HTML5. Because what you have in your Zendesk is you have a very, very large style CSS. So it's up to you. If you want to make additions to this or use the document head to call another CSS file, that's your choice. So in order to know what to change in style CSS or a separate file as we just discussed, I think you need to make a temporary publication push into a category in Zendesk with all the elements you think you're going to use tables, lists, etcetera, etcetera. So your Zendesk designer can then go through all those elements you're going to use and modify the CSS accordingly. So I'm gonna open a new tab here with Paligo to Zendesk. And let's go into our Fourth of July. Getting started. And for example, if I now go into inspect, for that title, the to do, Paligo shows me what it's called is a title. And if I want to change the color, for example, okay. We're here. Color. It's turned red, and you want you want to take essentially this basic CSS or something similar, your designers will know exactly how much and what to do. You wanna play here maybe and then you'll go into your custom design and modify CSS or a separate file with the changes that you want to make. So create some example content. So your designer in Zendesk can actually play with it and update the Zendesk team. In summary, we have the zip file from Zendesk. We can extract CSS and JavaScript if we want to put them in. We stick them inside as assets inside your Zendesk theme. And then you can go to the document head and activate them, call them, essentially, and go and create some example contents. Your designer and Zendesk can update this CSS to incorporate all the new styles that Paligo has put in that didn't exist already.
